CPA in Richmond, TX — Tax Preparation & Bookkeeping

Fort Bend County is one of the fastest-growing and most diverse counties in the country, and Richmond sits right at the center of it. From our office on Via Mazzini Way, N & H Certified Public Accountants prepares returns and keeps the books for families and small businesses across Richmond, Sugar Land, Katy, Fulshear, and the greater Houston area — in person, or entirely by phone and secure upload.

Texas has no state income tax. That doesn't make your return simple.

Skipping a state income tax return usually means the federal return carries all the weight. Self-employment tax on 1099 and contractor income, quarterly estimated payments, depreciation on rental property, S-corp reasonable compensation, home-office and vehicle deductions — those are the places Texas filers actually leave money on the table or invite an IRS letter. We work through them line by line, and we tell you what to change before the next year starts, not after it ends.

If you run a business here, Texas asks for something else instead: the franchise tax. Every LLC, corporation, and partnership registered in the state files an annual report with the Comptroller, even in years when no tax is owed. Miss it and your entity's right to transact business in Texas can be forfeited. We track the May deadline, calculate margin the way that costs you least, and file the report alongside your federal return so nothing is left half-finished.

Moved here from New York? We have an office there, too.

A large share of our Richmond clients did not grow up in Texas. They came from New York, New Jersey, and elsewhere in the Northeast for the jobs, the housing, and the weather — and they arrive with half a year of New York wages, a co-op that sold in March, or a business still registered up north. N & H keeps a full office in Queens, New York staffed by the same firm, so split-year and multi-state returns are routine work here rather than a special project, and you deal with one team for both states.

The people we sit down with in Richmond are LLC and S-corp owners, independent contractors and tradesmen, medical and professional practices, real estate investors holding rentals across Fort Bend and Harris counties, retirees managing distributions, and W-2 families who simply want the return done right. Whichever you are, a licensed CPA prepares and reviews the work — not seasonal staff hired in January and gone by May.

We are open year-round at the same Richmond address. Come in and sit across the desk from us, or send everything through secure upload and handle the whole thing by phone — plenty of our Katy and Sugar Land clients never make the drive. Either way, the first consultation is free and we quote the fee before we start.

Common questions

Texas has no state income tax — do I still need a CPA?
Usually yes, because the federal return is then doing all the work. Self-employment tax, quarterly estimates, depreciation, entity elections, and reasonable compensation are where Texas filers most often overpay or draw an IRS notice — and none of those go away without a state return.
Do you handle the Texas franchise tax?
Yes. We file the annual franchise tax report and Public Information Report with the Texas Comptroller for LLCs, corporations, and partnerships, including no-tax-due years, and we track the May deadline so your entity stays in good standing.
I just moved from New York — can you handle both states?
That is one of the most common reasons people call us. We have a full office in Queens, New York and this one in Richmond, so part-year, split-year, and multi-state returns are handled in house by one team rather than split between two firms.
How much does tax preparation cost?
It depends on which forms your situation needs, so we quote the fee up front before any work starts. The first consultation is free — bring or send last year's return and we will tell you what we would do differently.
